The worst sin is not giving in to love.

He was born one summer.

In those years Italian families who owned a TV never dreamed of having another. The appliance occupied the place of honor in the good living room.

The cathode ray tube was hidden behind the thick convex glass screen, embedded in a casing that was generally made of wood; it still transmitted in black and white.

The second channel had recently come into existence, where a well-known prize giving quiz was popular.

The evening of his birth coincided with that of the final of the telequiz, an unfortunate circumstance for the father, a faithful and passionate spectator, who was faced with a difficult choice.

Therefore, while the mother screamed in pain in the delivery room, the father followed with apprehension sample responses of the championship in the cabin.

On the other hand, it was not customary, as it is today, for the spouse to attend the birth of the son.

It was still a matter for which woman saw to in female solitude.

Then this was not even their first child, who could perhaps compete with the father's legitimate interest in the telequiz, but the third.

The fact that the family wasn't at all wealthy, despite owning a television, might induce one to think that the newborn had not even been sought.

In any case, the father went to the hospital the next morning to carry out all his duties, so yes he assumed the responsibility for registering the child's name.

When he passed the nursery looking at the children shown behind the glass, he did not recognize that he was his.

There could have been various reasons: first, the child did not yet have a tag with a name that identified it, then at the time we were witnessing a demographic boom and newborns there were really many compared to those you might see today. Moreover, they all looked a bit like each other and the father, it must be said in his partial defense, had gone to bed late to fulfill his commitment to follow the fate of the champion.

However, the child showed good character from an early age.

He cried little, did not eat much and did not cause many disturbances when his father watched TV in the evening.

He was sensitive and intelligent.

He did not attend the nursery or kindergarten, since the housewife mother could easily look after him, but already before elementary school he had learned to read, almost autonomously, having a passion for comics.

He arrived in first grade and settled in very well, immediately getting good marks and the sympathy of the teacher.

Having no learning or behavioral problems, the teacher's kindness soon turned into a sort of benevolent indifference.

Even his little companions did not dislike him, he was always kind and helpful, but they shared little with him.

Many played sports of various kinds, from football to swimming to skiing.

He did not take part in any of these sports and had no interest in the Sunday Series A matches that the other children commented on regularly Monday morning, mimicking their fathers or older brothers.
